Northern Community Legal Centre

Northern Community Legal Centre (NCLC) provides free and confidential legal advice at outreach locations across the catchments of Merri-bek and Hume local government areas.

NCLC provides the following service:

• Assisting victims survivors to obtain family violence intervention orders, and free legal advice and advocacy in relation to divorce, visa abuse, child contact orders, victims compensation, tenancy rights and fines or debt related to family violence.
• The Safe Landing project incorporates migration advice for women on temporary visas experiencing family violence, to provide an integrated response that enables women and children to remain safely in Australia.
• NCLC also co-ordinates the Family Violence Intervention Order Duty Lawyer Service for victims survivors at the Broadmeadows Magistrates’ Court, providing on-the-spot advice and limited court representation.
• NCLC also participates in the Early Resolution Service at Broadmeadows Magistrates’ Court which aims for early referral of matters for legal advocacy, providing greater opportunities for negotiation and resolution between the parties prior to the court hearing.
