Turn Input into Action Forum: Progressing Victim Survivor Experience Mapping Recommendations

On 30 March 2023, organisational leaders across the northern metropolitan region progressed recommendations arising from the Victim Survivor Experience Mapping report, a qualitative piece of research which highlights victim survivor experiences of the service system.

Forum participants:
– heard from those involved in the Mapping, including Ruby Bovill (VACCA) who presented on the impact of Child Removal on Aboriginal Communities
– gained insight into the Victoria Police Predominant Aggressor Project from Senior Sergeant Dagmar Anderson’s presentation
– developed collaborative plans to contribute to the next NIFVS Regional Integration Committee’s Strategic Plan.

Proposed actions arising from the Recommendations included:

  • Develop a tip sheet for workers about what legal support is available and how it could support victim survivors.
  • Build a trauma and violence-informed approach at Magistrates’ Courts.
  • Map expertise in the region regarding provision of cultural awareness training.
  • Explore the idea of an emergency number for police to call to help identify the predominant aggressor.
  • Allow job applicants to see questions beforehand and bring notes to interviews.
